Dark Horse Recording Studios is a 4 studio complex located in Franklin, Tennessee, 15 miles south of Nashville. Originally opened in 1993 with the Cabin studio, Dark Horse's early client base consisted of Neil Diamond, Faith Hill, and Martina McBride. In 1999, a second building was added to house the complex's largest studio, known as the Lodge and two smaller studios used for overdubbing and mixing. This building also contains two guest suites which accommodate up to six people as well as kitchen and lounge areas.

In July 2004, the Lodge studio was featured on the cover of Mix Magazine reporting that "The largest of the four studios, the Lodge’s cathedral-like control room accommodates up to six musicians who can theoretically gather around the Trident and Martin Sound ACX 24-channel side car. The Lodge also features an 18x20-foot drum room and a third room with a second Yamaha C7 and a Hammond B3 organ."
The Cabin has a Yamaha C7 Midi Grand piano, a Series 80 console, and five separate recording rooms. Housed in a separate building, the Cabin has its own kitchen and lounge.
All of the equipment in the Barefoot Room is easily movable and can be configured any way needed. It can also be joined as an extension of the Lodge.
The tack room is smallest studio and has a Digidesign/Focusrite Control 24.
The Dark Horse Institute is a 12-week Audio Engineering/Music Production Program that is held at Dark Horse Recording Studios. Students receive hands on experience and develop skills in analog, digital and studio recording as well as learn the business side of the industry. The instructors are full-time professional engineers and producers. At the end of the program, students earn a Certificate of Completion signifying successful completion of the coursework.
Dark Horse Recording was designed and built author, speaker, and recording artist Robin Crow.
